Perry gets crazier with each passing day.

*sigh*

I'll be so happy when this goober is finally the hell out of the Governor's office.

Just one reason I'm thrilled he may run for Prez: it means there's a non-negative possibility that he will be pressured into resigning his seat to prove he's serious, especially if he actually wins the nom.

And even though he's really late to the party, it's not crazy that he *could* win, mainly since every other candidate is terrible in some way.

Except that for all his batshit crazy talk, he has a HUGE strike against him -- he was the handpicked successor of George W. Bush here. A lot of the GOP base now hates Dubya as a RINO, especially because of the bailouts. Even here in Texas he polls in the single digits among potential GOP nominees.

And in the general election, all his secession talk will work against him. Plus, the Dubya strike works against him in the general too. If people hated Bush, they're sure as hell not going to vote Perry.

Still I hope all this talk gets him to resign and leave office. I'm tired of looking at him. =P

It's widely acknowledged (yes, I live in Texas) that Perry and Bush despise each other. Now maybe people who don't know better will tie them together because they served one after the other as Texas gov, but they were elected separately.

Your confusing personal animosity (which according to you they felt) with support for each others governing policies of which we have more than ample evidence. Who cares how Perry supposedly felt, what matters is what he actually did. ;)

Would any of the Jewish Lizards care to explain some context and history to Joel?

When someone cites the OT as part of Christian apocalyptic prophecy my first instinct is to want to find out what two-thousand-plus years of Jewish scholarship have to say. And frankly one of the elements that kept me coming back to this board as a lurker was the discussion of midrash.

I don't really have a lot of in depth knowledge of Judaism...I grew up mostly around East and South Asian religions...but it feels important that I understand these documents because of what they're being used to justify.

I don't care what anyone else says. No one can grow crazy politicians like we Texans.

Rick Perry? The same Rick Perry who chaired Al Gore's presidential campaign in Texas in 1988 (back when he was a Democrat) and who endorsed Rudy Giuliani for president in 2008 (back when he was a moderate)?

Rick Perry who signed an executive order in 2007 mandating that all teen-aged girls in Texas be vaccinated against HPV, making Texas the first state to mandate prevention of a sexually transmitted disease?

The Rick Perry who now wants gay sex to be criminalized, who supports teaching Intelligent Design in public schools, who dismisses AGW altogether, and who's as keen on secession as Todd Palin used to be?

The Rick Perry who was G.W. Bush's Lieutenant Gov., and who ran up one of the highest state debts in the union he now wants to leave?

This is not the resume of a potential Republican presidential candidate, much less a potential POTUS. Just because you're lugging an equal amount of baggage on both sides doesn't mean it weighs nothing.

Isn't that the truth. Good crazy sometimes too, fortunately. Just not so much these days.
